What a shopping agent can do

A shopping agent browses a store like a visitor in a hurry: it searches for the product, opens the product page, picks a variant, adds to cart and moves to checkout. It does not see images: it reads texts, buttons and forms.

Our agent deliberately stops at the first page asking for an account or personal data, and buys nothing. That is where it all happens: out of 494 stores tested, it reached checkout without a mandatory account on 166.

What stops it

• A mandatory account before paying: 120 stores out of 494.
• A button without text, or only visible on hover: the top failure reason in fashion, on 30 stores out of 71.
• A cookie banner without a visible “Reject” button.
• A store that refuses robots: the agent never gets past the home page.

The sectors where it works best

Jewellery leads with an average of 63 out of 100, followed by beauty (58) and fashion (52). DIY and garden comes last with 42: mandatory accounts and long journeys.
